Cover up cosmetics : There are cosmetics that can cover up skin lesions. Sometimes laser cahelp remove skin lesions. There are aldo medications to treat systemic lupus that can also have an important effect on skin lesions. Besides corticosteroids, other medications such as Hydroxychloroquine and even been benlysta, (belimumab) cytotoxic drugs can sometimes clear up lupus skin lesions.

Yes: Coping with a  chronic disease is always important. There  may be limitations but the majority of my patients lead a great  life. The treatment needs  to be tailored to the involvement and  needs  of the person with lupus. The person with  lupus needs to take  charge. People with lupus are  normal people who happen to have lupus. This should  be the guideline but personal responsibility is tops.

No: Just eat a healthy, balanced diet.

No: There is no benefit in canned fruit but there are also not problems with it either in lupus.

Whole Food Based: A whole food anti inflammatory diet is best. Fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, nuts, legumes, and healthy fats like omega 3 fatty acids found in fish. Avoid processed foods, artificial sweeteners, trans fats, and artificial coloring and chemical as much as possible.

what are some good exercises for lupus patients?

Indoor: Lupus you need to usually avoid sun. Listen to your body and work with your doctor what is safe. I usually tell people to do a little more today than you did yesterday, for 15 minutes. Do this *every day* unless injured (then stretch), and slowly build strength, which improves immune function. Indoor swimming would be ideal in most instances.

No: It has no value in lupus.

what is a good pain medicine for lupus patients?

Accepted Answer

Depends: It depends on what medications you are on for your lupus.  Acetaminophen is good for any, but non-steroidal inflammatory drugs have to be used with caution and G.I. protection with a proton pump inhibitor if on steroids. Opiods  safer on major medications for lupus such as biologics and chemotheirapy drugs.

i am loosing a lot of my hair due to lupus lesions. what can i do about it?

What meds?: Coul;d be lupus, your meds, or something else.  I recommend nutritional support using biotin 7500mcg, a b-50 complex, and folic acid.  You did not decribe alopecia per se, but if you are sick, you are also catabolic, and hair falls out faster.  Since you did not mention meds, i can't help you there. See your rheumatology practitioner to address the meds. Keep in mind, damaged follicles shed!

Many: As lupus is a multisystem disease many organs can be affected and your questions should be geared to this .Overall your concerns should go to short term and longer term prognosis based on current findings and what your treatment options are.You always want to use the least amount of medication that is effective.
