i get insomnia from bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds 800-160.  how long after taking a pill might this impact me?

See answer: The half-life of a drug is the time it takes for a drug to lose half (50%) of its pharmacologic or physiologic properties. The half-life of the two drug ingredients in Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) are 8 and 10 hrs. Therefore, after 5 half-lifes or 40 and 50 hrs for the 2 drugs, 97% of the drugs will be out of your system (~2 days).  One would expect any related insomnia to be short?

was prescribed bactrim ds for 7 days, take 2 800mg doses a day. i split the dosage over 14 days and took 1 800mg pill a day. finished bactrim on thursday, today is saturday and i just noticed a decent sized bruise on back of thigh. should i consult my doc

Unclear: It is hard to tie these things together. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) can occasionally lower platelet counts which would make it easier to bruise. But if there is just one bruise and you are off the medication you might watch and see. If you continue to have bruising problems, have any bleeding, or are still concerned then see your doctor.

i took yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) and this is my 2nd month but both time i noticed having very bad shoulder pain...cld ds b yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) ?can i change to another pill in btween

No: I know of no correlation between Yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) and shoulder pain .  If you are convinced that it is the cause see your doctor for a change.

Cut In Half: The tablets are scored and can be cut in half.  If they are still too big, they can be crushed and mixed in a small amount of applesauce and taken.  Follow with plenty of water.

Acne: Neither of those medications are useful for acne dark spots. Neither of them are very useful in treating acne at all. The sulfa drug can help acne but can have very serious side effects so it is not routinely used. Whenever the skin is inflamed it will get lighter or darker in color. See your dermatologist to get the acne under control so you don't get scars and dark spots.

If you still: have urinary symptoms despite a course of Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS, you might have persistent uti with resistant bacteria.  Get back to your doctor.  Insomnia is probably not related to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim).

Penicillin?: Pvk 500 sounds like Penicillin VK at the 500mg dose. However, one cannot be certain, so the proper thing to do is to dispose of expired, old, or unidentified medications.

YES..... BUT!!!: Capsules can be divided, if you pour the content in water and drink it, BUTT!!! you shouldn't do this, because the capsule layer it's made to pass de gastric acid, so the absorption of the medication can be made in the small intestine. YOU NEED TO ASK any different presentation of your medication.
