Not all: There are survivors of gbm - but this is less than 5% at 5 years.    I have 2 known survivors....But more than a hundred who have died.

Several: Because some patients respond better than others.  I have some patients alive at 3-4 years.  The goals of treatment are to prolong the progression free interval.  The goal is not cure.  We are learning a lot about the biology of the disease to better treat it.  We are learning that certain markers predict response.  It is always an option not to treat, however, we have gained a lot of knowledge.

Yes and no: If it is in an area that can be resected, the neurosurgeon tries to remove as much as safely possible.  However, this tumor unlike others usually is difficult to completely resect.  So the goal is to remove as much as possible.  Radiation and chemotherapy are standard after surgery.  The goal of treatment is to delay the time of recurrence.  Hope this helps.

Incurable: Unfortunately, glioblastoma is incurable. It however can be controlled with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy for sometime. Hopefully one day we can cure it but the science is not there yet.

Find  good Neurosurg: This is a very dangerous type of cancer. Yet a small percentage do survive this cancer. The chances are better if a tumor removed completely(debulking it to the max) and follow it up with radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy(temodar) and avastin (bevacizumab).

Mutation and growth: Like all cancers, glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an abnormal growth of cells (in this case arising in the brain) triggered by a randomly occurring mutation. The growth causes pressure on normal brain tissue, causing neurologic symptoms that lead to its discovery. It can be treated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy with better and better results, but remains incurable.

Brain tumor: This is an aggressive brain tumor that is frequently fatal. Treatment has improved over the past 5 years or so, and includes surgery radiation and chemotherapy. However, despite improvements in treatment, it remains a very difficult cancer to cure.
