i was told by my gi dr. to take 3 ferosul daily.  it says on the bottle not to exceed 2 pills in 24 hrs. i am nervous. is it safe to take 3 a day?

Pharmacist: Ask your pharmacist this question. Since only a small percentage of the iron is absorbed, I don't think that 3 a day would be a problem especially if you're significantly iron deficient. I have prescribed iron supplements 3 times a day on many occasions in iron deficiency patients. Be sure to take these with food.

can an endoscopy be done in the gi dr's office?

Maybe: Some Gastroenterologists perform endoscopy at their own outpatient facilities.  Others may perform them at a hospital.  Some may perform them at more than one location.

child gi dr said her stomach felt distended but what does that mean ?

Larger: Distended means the stomach feels larger than it normally would be, usually indicating a lot of air/gas in the stomach, but sometimes it can be retained stomach contents leading it to be bigger than it should be, it means either that she is overfilling her stomach and/or that her stomach is not emptying out as normally as it should be. Those would cause it to be too big. Discuss which with GI doc.

my gi dr found a 6mm nodule during my colonoscopy. what could this be?

Depends on pathology: Unless there is a pathologist on site, the polyps undergo a process of fixation, staining, sectioning, and interpretation. Most experienced gastroenterologists can however guess with about 90% accuracy whether a biopsied/removed polyp/nodule/mass/tumor has an appearance c/w cancer, &amp; what  further intervention for it may be needed. You should have biopsy results soon.

child going to gi dr for possible chrons or celiac disease. what test will be done ?

GI work ups..: Vary from dr to dr but most will check for antibodies against gluten which is a wheat protein.  This involves bloodwork.  The dr will also look for signs of inflammation and will probably check a sed rate and/or CRP because crohn's is less likely will normal values.  Endoscopy is sometimes indicated but generally not on first visit.  Expect some bloodwork before more invasive procedures.

Apart from Meds...: Suggest finding clinical psychologist who is anxiety specialist - someone who (a) uses behavioral & cognitive-behavioral techniques, esp. To help u build skills to gain control of anxiety/panic; (b) uses experiential & mindfulness techniques to help u identify & experience ur emotions as u're feeling them; & (c) uses techniques that trace roots of ur feelings & explore patterns in ur relationships.

i have seen a gi dr for 4 mo w/o results, are there many gi problems hormonally related? my symptoms keep changing, which specialist do i need?

Many more factors : If you have seen GI doctors and done endoscopy or colonoscopy and did not find any problems, then it could be due to due to hormonal or psychological or so many other things. You might wanna read about irritable bowel syndrome if this fits your symptoms. Some people get changing symptoms due to stress as well.

when i tell the gi dr that bms take an hour to come out he assumes constipation. but it's soft and comes out a little at a time. what could cause this?

Pelvic floor issue?: In the right circumstances such symptoms may be related to pelvic floor dysfunction where the muscles cannot coordinate defecation. Enemas can be useful in such a situation. Talk to your doctor.
