good evening,  for the past 3 hours i have an excruciating pain in my stomach which comes and goes. 2 hours ago i took 2 sachets of gaviscon but it has not changed the pain!? can you assist

i have acid reflux and because of it i also have esophagitis i have been taking nexium while it does seem to reduce acid reflux it doesn't seem to be fully treating it... should i change it? i also have gaviscon i wasn't prescribed it should i use it?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. If you are overweight, losing weight is imperative for reducing reflux.  It would be prudent to see a doctor, preferably a GI specialist. Wish you good health!

can anxiety cause acid reflux? i have tried ppis, h2 blockers, gaviscon advance and lifestyle/diet changes for months; no effect from these.

GERD & Infections: The number one cause of ulcers and heartburn in many cultures is infection with a bug known as h. Pylori. Your doctor should be testing you for this infection.

gaviscon& aciphex (rabeprazole) for nausea and churning. i get bouts that last for a month or two.  is it related to fibromyalgia/seasonal change. pancreas atrophy?

maybe: Nausea is usually related to irritable bowel syndrome which most chronic pain patients have.  It always flares with emotional stress, anxiety, and difficulty coping.  It is not good to be alone at your age when you feel poorly.  Reassurance from friends and follow up with your doctor is a good course of action.

on ranatadine & gaviscon for gastritis. im getting no relief my chest aches/burns all day, even wakes me up. can't take omeprazol. what's a good pain relief option? i've changed my diet, risen my bed, i don't drink or smoke. or eat 3hrs before bed.

I have a few: thoughts, but you will need to continue to work closely with your gastroenterologist. Sometimes a different (from omeprazol) PPI may be effective, i.e pantoprazole or esomeprazole. Maximal doses of the H2 blocker (ranitidine) and PPI if tolerated (twice daily). Try sulcrafate. Baclofen can reduce the rate of sphincter relaxation; pain modulator such as trazodone; surgery as last resort.

diagnosed with lpr (throat clearing and nasal drip, 9 mths). 40mg protonix 2x per day +gaviscon adv. after every meal for 6 weeks. no change. not lpr?

LPR: In my experience those medications are usually ineffective in laryngopharyngeal reflux as opposed to GERD. Effective treatment for this disorder has been elusive at this time, but it may be worthwhile to get a second opinion from an otolaryngologist.

do i have gerd? i feel a pressure on my throat and/or chest, slight nausea, and lots of burping. medication (omeprazole and gaviscon) has been useless; diet changes have made no effect; and posture does not affect symptoms at all?

Would be: Very unusual. Have never seen it in either my pharmacy or medical career. But one thing I have learned, is never say never!
