i am having issues with really bad reflux causing nausea and vomiting. i had an abd ultrasound which was normal and a gastric emptying test was normal. any liquid can trigger me to regurgitate it. i know i have gerd but its not been this bad?

: Check for H pylori a bacteria associated with reflux and ulcers.- treated w/antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors. Also consider EGD ( endoscopy)  for gastritis  ( they can check for H pylori then or get a breath test) and eosinophilic esophagitis  which is an immune process. Consider food intolerances gluten dairy  soy and pancreatic insufficiency  F/U/ w/ gastroenterology

GERD: Reducing the amount of food per meal or increasing time allowed for digestion along with maintaining vertical posture for couple of hours following meals should help. Let your doc know about your symptoms during your annual well visit. If overweight losing weight will help the most in the long run.

i have a lot of heartburn. some weeks i can have none but than others, its constant! acid reflux? gerd? how can i know?

Heartburn: Yes your symptoms suggest you have gerd.You need to avoid very fatty meals, avoid certain foods which make your symptoms worse, like orange juice, pomatoes, mint, alcohol, smokingetc.You can try overthe counter Prilosec or Zantac (ranitidine) for the relief of your symptoms, if there is no relief see you doctor.

1: Acid reflux or gastroesophgeal reflux disorder is syndrome where because of lax sphincter between the esophgus and the stomach, people get regurgitation of acid conent in to the esophagus. 

Heartburn is the most common symptom of acid reflux but by no means the only symptom or manifestion. Acid reflux causes heartburn, esophagitis, strictures, barretts esophagus as well as cough etc.

Not all GERD = burn: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd) involves movement of stomach contents back into your esophagus. Gerd can be "silent" in a substantial # of patients, manifesting with ear/nose/throat & lung problems without heartburn. GERD: Gerd (movement of stomach contents into esophagus) can result from: 1) inappropriate relaxation of lower esophageal sphincter, gastroparesis (sluggish stomach emptying, partial gastric outlet obstruction), ineffective esophageal peristalsis, inadequate salivary production. Limit consumption of: caffeine &amp; fizzy drinks, dietary fats, tomato products, chocolate, tobacco, alcohol, bedtime snacks.

Change diet/behavior: You might benefit from a change in diet, specifically more fruits, vegetables, and fiber.  Also behavioral therapy, like relaxation techniques may help with your anxiety.  As for your results when you went and your pharyngitis, you might be sick with a virus which might be from a change in bowel habits due to a virus.  If this persists or you're still concerned, see your doctor for an exam.

Depends: Large hiatal hernias (or paraesophageal) hernias can cause chest pain, difficulty swallowing, and severe anemia from chronic bleeding. Only rarely do they cause life threatening problems such as gangrene. They are however frequently misunderstood as the cause of symptoms, so if a large hiatal or paraesophageal hernia is the diagnosis, see a general or thoracic surgeon with experience in lap repair.

No...: Hot flashes or sweats are typically caused by hormonal changes and not a symptom of acid reflux. Good luck!

Yes: It sounds as though your diet is poor., commonest cause of these symptoms is the sugar in your diet, however unlikely this sounds.
