can i take gas-x if i have gastritis?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Gas-ex will relieve UGI gas but gastritis symptoms may be better relieved with antacids, h2-blockers or proton pump inhibitors.

i take gas x every day . they  told me that i may have gastritis... and if gas x is a drug , isn't it bad every day?

Not necessarily bad: Gasx is simethicone, which works on gas.  Not necessarily bad. However, if you have gastritis, you probably need to deal with the acidity as well. Acid buffers or blockers would help the gastritis greatly.  Buffers such as antacids like maalox, mylanta, tums, etc work well. Acid blockers like zantac (ranitidine) or Pepcid (histamine blockers) or prilosec/ Prevacid (proton pump inhibitors) are very effective.

i'm wondering if i can take omeprazole for gastritis pain even if i have already taken a gas x pill not too long ago (an hour) .i'm having really painful gastritis pain ,are there any pain relivers that are food related ? thank you?

: Yes. omeprazole will be absorbed and will take effect. While gasX helps to relieve gas build up, it won't sooth the pain of gastritis which is inflammation of the stomach lining. Tums, Maalox or gelusil can.  Drinking hot water ( not boiling) or applying heat to the abdomen helps break down severe gas buildup. I'm not sure what you mean by pain relievers that are food related, though.

ate and drink to much cause me bloating heartburn diarrhea and gas. took gas x. just have gas now but stool a clay color is it gastritis?

See your doctor: Clay colored stools could be a sign of something involving the pancreas so you should be evaluated by a doctor.

Complex: Talk to your gastroenterologist or seek 2 nd opinion. There are no easy solution. Surgery is the last resort.

Try Simethacone: Simethacone is a safe and effective treatment for "trapped wind".  It is available over the counter and sold under many different brand names.

Probably: Both anxiety and gastritis can cause gas. Anxiety attacks can lead to accidental swallowing of air from hyperventilation. That air has no where to go but down and can becomes flatulence. Gastritis can cause gas if the cause of the gastritis produces gas. Certain bacteria produce gas as an effect of their normal metabolism. If they are the source of the gastritis then they too can cause flatulence.

Gastritis: It's hard to blame gastritis for excruciating upper abdominal pain. Keep looking to exclude causes such as an ulcer, pancreatitis, gerd.

i can feel a lot of rumbling gas in my stomach and i have frequent belching. no pain, just uncomfortable gas. what could be the cause? i have recently been told it could be gastritis.

Gas: The symptoms are not classic gastritis(inflammation of the stomach lining) symptoms. I believe you're dealing with either excessive gas formation from dietary issues like lactose or other food intolerance or inability to move normal gas production down the intestinal tract and out the rectum. Try to identify food triggers, avoid gassy foods or beverages. Try taking simethicone 1/2 hr after a meal.

on the right side just below my rib i feel this bulge every now and then. sometimes it gets bigger then smaller. its not painful but can be uncomfortable. can it be trapped gas on my right side? i do have ibs and gastritis. is it caused by them?

: An exam with your doctor would be the best way to answer this question.  But yes it could be gas and intestinal in origin.
