my collar bone is sticking out (past 60 days). i've been told via a ct scan it's a ganglion cyst pushing the bone. should i request an mri?

No point unless Symp: Unless you're having symptoms related to the collar bone (or unexplained symptoms), there's no point to the MRI. It will only show you the ganglion cyst that you know is already there. It won't push you towards surgery, especially if you don't have symptoms, unless you've talked to a surgeon. Pain ok: If you have a ganglion cyst it may continue to cause pain but can be tolerated.  The surgery may work but it can recur.  Try to see if you can tolerate it if not then go for surgery.

Sometimes: Ganglion cysts can fluctuate in size and appear to have resolved. Sometimes they have decreased in size yet can still cause pain. Other times they may not cause any pain at all and subsequently may not require treatment.

Sack of fluid: A ganglion cyst is a sack of fluid, usually from a joint capsule or tendon sheath. These are benign growths that rarely cause pain. Initial treatment is with ice, immobilization and nsaid's. Cysts that are still symptomatic after treatment or those that are very large can be surgically removed. Aspiration or drainage of these cysts is rarely sucessful. See a board certified orthopaedic hand doc.

Ganglion cyst: If it isn't bothering you nothing needs to be done.  It doesn't lead to anything worrisome.   A doctor can take a large needle and take out the thick gel like material, and sometimes that makes it go away.  If not doing this and injecting it with a little steroid.  Finally, surgery if that does not help.  No prescription will help.

Depends. : It entirely depends on what you are getting a ct scan of. Ct examination can sometimes involve contrast and multiple scans. In addition, each place has their own pricing. Surprisingly, you can find the same ct be priced differently in the same town. However, not every place has the same quality either. I would ask around to try to find a good balance between quality and price.
