Yes: The lack of gag reflex is a neurologic problem and has to be evaluated. The gag reflex is the safeguard that if anything goes from the mouth to the lungs instead of the esophagus, you cough it up so as to prevent aspiration and pneumonia. This reflex is actually depressed with age and sleep or with sedating medicines and we have to be careful.

Yes: Gag reflex prevents us from chocking on foods.  If your gag reflex effects your ability to swallow normal foods or liquids then see your doctor.

Treat pnd: I would treat the post nasal drip with a nasal steroid or antihistamine. Surgery would be the last option and actually could make things worse.

Thus, the only safe way to completely avoid a food in a diet is to read the label on everything your child eats. If there's no label - don't serve it.

: If your symptoms have persisted despite a two week course of acid suppression, it may be a good idea to be seen by a gastroenterologist. You may benefit from having a look at the upper digestive tract by endoscopy. If your food is sticking on the way down, an esophageal dilatation would be possible also. Good luck.

Acid reflux: Acid reflux is acid from the stomach going up the esophagus and causing pain from irritation.  Usually diet is the most common cause of acid reflux.  Avoid excessive alcohol, caffeine, nicotine.  Try not to lay down after eating.  Weigh loss and avoiding tight constricting garments will also help.  Recurrent or persistent abdominal pain or reflux should be evaluated by your doctor.

It can: That is a reasonable symptom if that is what you have.

Elevate the bed: Take a proton pump inhibitor in the morning before breakfast, then an h2 blocker at night before bed.  But elevate the head and the bed with bricks, books, or get a mattress wedge. Pillows do not work.

Reflux and cough: Have the child evaluated ,for reflux,by esophageal probe,once diagnosis is established ,treatment can be started,
