Can Be Many: Gabapentin aka Neurontin (gabapentin) side effects: drowsiness,  weakness, dizziness, headache, double or blurred vision, unsteadiness, anxiety, memory problems, strange or unusual thoughts, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite, weight gain, swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs, and some patients may develop suicidal ideation or even attempt suicide.

The use for anxiety is anecdotal with promising preliminary results encourage further clinical exploration and systematic study of Gabapentin for the treatment of anxiety. Side effects:  dizziness,, tiredness and double vision.

Risky, but discuss: This option with your therapist and doctors. It has some good reports, but also some that are not at all impressive. Worse, the side effects and withdrawal risks can be big. Think hard before using it - especially for off-label conditions. Best!

How well?: I don't see that hair loss is a major side effect of Neurontin, (gabapentin) but to be technical the best way to know for sure is to stop it and see if the hair loss stops.  BUT, I wouldn't do this without consulting with the prescribing doctor, and hair regrowth could take many months so may be hard to tell anyway.

i recently started gabapentin for anxiety and i noticed pitting edema on my right foot and ankle and shortness of breath. side effect or panic attack?

Neither: Unilateral edema is not due to any drug (which effects both feet equally). Same for panic. Unilateral edema is due a blood clot until proven otherwise. If you happen to use oral contraceptives, your risk is much increased. Your shortness of breath is ominous - you need prompt evaluation.

No: Gabapentin is indicated for seizures, painful nerve diseases, restless leg syndrome, and hot flashes.  First line therapy for general anxiety is either a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (ssri) like Prozac or a serotonin–norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (snri) like cymbalta (duloxetine).  You should see your family md for help with anxiety.
