i take neurontin (gabapentin) for mood disorder. is that effective?

It is used for mood: Disorders but i find it is sometimes a bit weak as a solo agent for bipolar spectrum disorders.

taking 2400mg gabapentin 3x per day, for 2-3 months. how do i taper off? how many mg per day should i drop? how long should the taper take? taking for mood. want to get off asap. what is the best way to get off of this?

: Presume your dosage is 2400 mg total per day, but highest effective dose is but 1800 mg!  Sudden stopping could result in seizures as a potential risk.  You will need to contact your doctor, inform of your desires, and be supervised with a slow and steady taper.  Do NOT do this without supervision and assistance.  Expect a slow steady process will be smooth and safe.

taking gabapentin 300gm and  having problem with moods, staying awake, balance. when will these get better? i am starting my second week.

Cut back to 100 mg: Slowly titrated. Start at 100 mg at bedtime. Go up to 200 mg after a week. Wait another 7-10 days to go up to 300 mg at bedtime then after a week try to add 100 mg in the morning

Proceed with caution: Gabapentin  &amp; SSRI's have significant side effects. too long to list here. Not knowing your medical history I would strongly talk this over with your physician

You could: There are no known interactions between st. John's wort and gabapentin, so taking these in combination should not cause a problem. However, it may be helpful to work with a professional regarding your "low mood." st. John's wort can assist with mild-moderate depression, but if more extensive than this may not be effective. Also understanding what's happening before medicating it, seems wise.

so i'm looking to get on a mood stabilizer, i was on depokote in the past. my current doctor doesn't want me on it. he is suggesting gabapentin and inderal (propranolol). what do you guys think? depokote has worked great for me in the past.

Depokote OK but: Depokote can be Ok  but there may be a medical reason why your physician does not want to use. There could be toxicity reasons or your evaluation medically may suggest reasons why the gabapentin and inderal (propranolol)  may be a great  idea. You need to discuss these  with  your  physician

my husband takes pravachol (pravastatin) his muscles hurt he also takes gabapentin for neuropathy not a diabetic he gets mood seings ?

Statin medications: Statin medications (like pravachol) do often cause muscle aches and can contribute to neuropathy.  The are very good medicines overall, however, so speak to your doctor about perhaps changing to another one....Which often fixes the problem.

Gabapentin: Also called neurontin, (gabapentin) is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat seizure, also for post-herpetic neuralgia & other neuropathic pains, as well as restless leg syndrome. It works by lowering excitation of brain through gaba.

The same thing: Those terms are for the same thing. One is the Brand name - the other is the active ingredient - generic term.
