Needs eval: It may be a fungal infection, or eczema or psoriasis. The way you sort this out is by having a proper exam done.

Very unusual: A middle ear fungal infection in an immunocompetent person would be highly unlikely. Can have fungal ear canal infections or fungi in secretions associated with pe tubes. If the infection doesn't respond to antimicrobial treatment based on culture of the drainage consider removal of tubes, adenoidectomy, antireflux treatment, blood test for antibody levels and lymphocyte enumeration, .

External ear: I am sure you mean a possible fungal infection of the EXTERNAL EAR CANAL, not the inner ear.  You need a culture of the drainage of the ear canal skin to document the presence of fungus.  The most common cause of dry ears causing itchiness is the over use of Q-tips to clean your ears of wax.  Wax in the ear canal is important and healthy and will migrate out on its own.

i have a fungal infection inside & behind my ears that has spread to my scalp. i went to my dr. about it before it spread but the anti fungal cream he prescribed only lessened the severity & the rash comes back once i stop using it. whats going on??

Seborrheic dermatiti: This sounds like seborrheic dermatitis -- it's the same problem as dandruff, but more severe. You might need a steroid cream in addition to antifungal. Discuss with your doctor; if s/he seems uncertain, request referral to a dermatologist.

Fungal otitis: Fungal ear infection usually affect the outer ear?Serous otitis affects the middle ear so the two may not be related. Outer ear involvement or swimmers ear maybe seen after swimming.  If your infection is in the outer ear you might try putting several drops of vinegar in your ear several times a day until you are seen by your ent.

If ear drops containing combined  antibacterial, antifungal and corticosteroid substances aren't effective( usually the antifungal drops are separate) I recommend consulting a dermatologist for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. In other words, antifungal ear drops alone may not clear up the infla

Fungal ear infection: Fungal ear infection usually affects the outer ear canal. You can try using vinegar drops. Or ear drops which are a combo of a steroid and vinegar. Try keeping the canal dry and if necessary have your ENT specialist clean out any debris in the ear
