baby fundal height was 38 at 38 weeks than measured 37.5 at 39 weeks? could it be because it was 2 different doctors  measuring me causing different measurements? or can baby fundal height go down? baby is head down.

As the pregnancy: progresses, in the later weeks, softening of the lower uterine segment, allows the head to move down in the pelvis. This is called engagement. As this occurs the fundal height drops in the last few weeks, as you have seen for yourself.

Baby  growth: The fundal height is good for trending over the course of your pregnancy and fh is +/- 2-4 cm = weeks once past 20 weeks. Most doc's will start measuring fh at 20 or 24 week visit. U/s has a 10-15% error of calculating baby weight throughout pregnancy and assigning dates varies with gestational age.

None: An 8 week uterus is usually not popping out of the pelvis yet - if you are thin then it may be palpable above the pubic bone.

It means little: Fundal height generally approximates but does not always correlate to the actual gestational age. The measurement that you describe, I am assuming, is an ultrasound that is also an approximation.

About 12 weeks: It begins to peek out from under the bones in your abdomen and it's height can be followed.

Nonspecific: If your dates are good stick with 30 weeks.  If not so sure split the difference 31 weeks.  The fundal height is subject to interpretation and not specific.  It is just a general idea.

Within 3 wks: This is a rough guideline that obstetricians follow after 20wks. A three week discrepancy is acceptable and if greater, should prompt need for ultrasound evaluation.

Normal: Ultrasound is more accurate compared to measurement of the fundal height. The first trimester ultrasound will be more accurate in dating the pregnancy than the second trimester ultrasound in most cases.

Yes: It may have affected the measurement. I would wait until my next check. If you are still measuring more, i would suggest asking for a sonogram because your dates may be off.

Trial of labor: There is no right or wrong answer. A trial of labor with timely c/section if there is inadequate progress of cervical dilatation would be a reasonable approach.
