It varies.: It generally takes roughly 3 to 4 hours where the patient is blurred for reading but generally can still see well at distance. It usually takes about 3-4 hrs for the blurriness to subside. What you are experiencing is the inability of your pupil to accomodate.

Optic Neuritis: Optic neuritis is a condition which is caused by an autoimmune injury to the optic nerve.  This produces loss of the fatty insulation ("myelin") around the nerve which makes the nerve not function well.  Patients have vision changes (esp. loss of color and brightness sensation), a change in pupil function, and frequently pain with eye movement.  MS is usually diagnosed by MRI or a spinal tap.

MD: I would have him see an eye physician...Not only due to ptosis (eyelid drooping) which can be helped with minor surgery but also for cataracts and other ophthalmalogic problems associated with various muscular dystrophies....
