Could be...: I assume the arm is in a sling or likely shoulder immobilizer.  Was this a surgical repair?  Could be related nerves/reflex distribution of pain fibers from the shoulder/arm.  I'd follow up with the doctor that treated the fracture or your primary care physician.

In short YES. : I typically do not perform surgery on nondisplaced fractures of the proximal humerus. I tell people it is like having ice cream on a cone. If the ice cream (humeral head or ball) falls off the cone(shaft) then it needs surgery if the ice cream is tilted or slightly smashed no surgery. If it is blown to prices then surgery.

Usually: Often with a long arm cast, and often applied at Orthopedic follow up visit (after 10-14 days). Usually worn for 6-8 weeks, depending on patient and nature of fracture. Can contact his Pediatrician for referral if not provided at first visit.

: There are risks and benefits to any surgery. In a 75 yo person with so many chronic conditions, the risk will be higher. Talk to her orthopedic surgeon about the specific risks of this procedure and whether they outweigh the benefits. There may be alternative, nonsurgical methods that are less risky.

Stabilization: I hope you have seen a physician for this and i assume he has told you what to do. Most humeral fracture  that are proximal if not displaced may be immobilized for 2 weeks then if  the fracture is stable then begin therapy. If any fracture is angulated or unstable surgery would be necessay.

if treated non-operatively, as many humeral shaft fractures are, most folks tend to feel significantly better within a couple weeks.  Some don't feel better ad quickly and some folks do not go on to heal but develop a "non-union" which can be quite symptomatic.

If you have this fixed surgically, the pain may decrease more quickly.
