In short YES. : I typically do not perform surgery on nondisplaced fractures of the proximal humerus. I tell people it is like having ice cream on a cone. If the ice cream (humeral head or ball) falls off the cone(shaft) then it needs surgery if the ice cream is tilted or slightly smashed no surgery. If it is blown to prices then surgery.
