: Acetaminophen may be safely used up to 4 g per day on a daily basis (although some experts will say that should not be any more than 3 g per day.) It is important to avoid acetaminophen in other Over the counter products if you are taking it regularly. Also you should avoid alcohol while taking acetaminophen. Good luck.

: Acetaminophen is thought to be safe for daily use if less than 4 g per day is taken (although some experts will say no more than 3 g per day). Be careful that none of your over-the-counter medicines also contain Acetaminophen. Also it’s important not to use alcohol when taking it. Within those constraints, it is OK to use it until your foot is healed.

Elevation: With a hard cast in place you cannot apply compression therapy , so elevation is your best  answer.   Your surgeon is the one for the best consultation.  Seek his/her help - they would want you to ask.  Good luck.

can foot fusion be performed on those with gas gangrene near the ankle, if not why not?

Accepted Answer

Not recomended as: soft tissue coverage would not be there but also you do not want to use metal ( screws, plates or a  rod) in presence of an active infection. The most likely end result would be an amputation as BONE Infections can be very difficult to eradicate, without multiple surgeries and long term antibiotics.
I would not recomend it. I would rather give my patient one surgery ( Amputation) and a prosthesis.

Depends: Joints are fused by removing the cartilage and placing the two raw bone ends together and fixating with screws and/or a plate. There are external fixators that can be used as well.

Accepted Answer

Painful Hardware: If the surgery was over a year ago, and the joint appears to have fused, removal of the hardware would probably be the best option.  If it was fairly recent or it never fused (non-union), may need to give it some more time and/or use a bone simulator.  If it is a nonunion, sometimes revision is necessary (removal of hardware and replacement with new hardware after preparing fusion site again).

Radicular pain: Could be you are still having some nerve irritation. The area you are having burning is in the dermatome consistent with your L5/S1 surgery. Let surgeon know about the symptoms.

Worrisome: Lots of possible reasons: post-traumatic arthritis, hardware pain/ ?Failure, incomplete fusion, re-current infection, just because?  Put your brace on, get some crutches, 
go see your doctor.

Could be a few : Things.  If you've been healing well all along and now, out of the blue, you have pain, call your surgeon. A piece of hardware may be dislodged. It's also common to have sharp sudden pain, especially if the weather is changing, but this shouldn't last more than a moment. Either way, the best advice i can give you is call your surgeon.

i'm having  symptoms of burning, stabbing pain, electric shocks, extreme sensitivity/pain in toes, top&side of foot/ankle lt foot after l5/s1 fusion.

Accepted Answer

Depends: If these symptoms were there prior or even after your back surgery, you should see your back surgeon and consult.   These are obvious nerve symptoms and despite your back symptoms may be resolved, more distal symptoms may persist.  If these symptoms are new, they may be local (tarsal tunnel syndrome-look it up) or yet originate from your back.
