Shingles: Nausea and anorexia are not likely to be related to his episode of herpes zoster (shigles).  He should see a doctor and be fully evaluated.  Something may be going on that made him susceptible to getting shingles.

Labyrinthitis: Depending on which nerve root was affected by your shingles outbreak, you may have "irritated" nerves that innervate the labyrinth, or balance centers of the ears.  If shingles was not a case of the head and neck area, then i recommend a simple blood test such as imunocap, which tests for food allergies, thus helping you identify allergies directly and minimize your exposure to them.

Shingles: Shingles is reactivation of the varicella virus. You can only get it if you had chicken pox in the past.

Accepted Answer

Depends on immunity: Herpes zoster is the chicken pox virus, so a person with zoster can touch any normal person (not immunocompromised, not on prednisone, not a baby) who has immunity to the virus from a past vaccination or a past case of chicken pox or zoster. Otherwise, the zoster patient can wait until all his rash is fully healed (although he is probably not contagious once his scabs are all dry and healing).

Accepted Answer

Yes: As long as you practice good hand hygiene and the lesions are in a place that can be covered it's ok for you to be around other olks.  That being said as an added precaution i would recommend not being around folks with low immunity like patients on chemotherapy, people on  anti rejection medicine or HIV patients.

Not Contagious: Generally, only the weeping, oozing fluid from the acute outbreak on the skin is mildly contagious and then only to those with no immunity to Chicken Pox (varicella). This is most significant if a pregnant woman without immunity could transmit the virus to her fetus and cause an Intrauterine  infection which would probably cause injury to the susceptible fetus.

i noticed acute pain upper left side of my back  along with my left chest. i thought it is muscles pain but actually i developed shingles on back and chest. any suggested otc cream to remove the lesions and avoid scar?

Shingles: If you have open lesions then any topical is not recommended. You need to be on antivirals from your doctor first. Lesions are part of the shingles and will go away on their own - usually no scar seen once healed.

how do i make an oatmeal bath for shingles? where do u buy oatmeal to do this? are they speaking about oatmeal that u make to eat?

: The flour like powder created by the milling of oatmeal is often available in packets at a variety of pharmacies. This is added to bathwater to give a soothing effect. The oatmeal you eat will just make a mess.

i have shingles on my hand and work directly with food and have my wash my hands frequently throughout the day. how do i work with this?

Shingles: Shingles is a blistering viral infection (herpes zoster). Check with your doctor. You should not be working with food if you have active shingles on your hand because shingles can lead to chicken pox in people that are not immune to it. The blisters settle within 10 days to 3 weeks, and are non-contagious when they have dried up.  If they have dried up, use plenty of hand cream after washing.

Yes...: The key to preventing any transmission is LOTS of hand washing and avoid direct contact with the shingles lesions.
