Yes: This is at the top end of the recommended intake. But you probably don't need to take it. Just make sure u eat plenty of fruits and veggies. Also, storebought bread usually has Folic Acid in it. I have seen many people who get upset stomach with this high dose. Why not just take 400 mcg, or rather, focus on eating right? Good luck!

Yes, 5-MTHF : Yes, Folic Acid is proven to significantly reduce risk of certain serious birth defects but is important to take in the first days of pregnancy, before you know you are pregnant. One third of people can't convert Folic Acid to the active form so to be safe i advise that form, called l-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (folic acid) (5-mthf), 400-800 mcg. Good brands include nutricolgy's quatreactiv folate (folic acid).

Yes.: All women in their childbearing years should take folate, (folic acid) especially if they are actively trying to conceive. Folic acid helps reduce the risk of neural tube defects in the fetus. The recommended dosage is 0.4-0.8mcg for women with low risk. Supplementation should begin at least 1 month before conception and continued throughout the first trimester.

why is it not recommended to take more than 1000mcg of folic acid daily? is it harmful?

Your body: Can only use so much.  If take more than recommended your body gets rid of rest.  But if continue to take too much could result in side effects.  Such as abdominal pain. Diarrhea insomnia and irritability to name a few

It is in range: Your folic acid is within normal range.  Does not really matter that much if it is low normal, it is still normal.  If you would feel better taking FA then it would be 1mg daily.

Folic acid: Depending on the age & the deficiency, the serum level & what it is used for, the usual adult dose is  400-1, 000 microgram per day.

Not really : There are many mechanisms by which Methotrexate modifies the function of the immune system. Inhibition of Folic Acid metabolism is probably only one of the many ways it works. I only prescribe Folic Acid to patients only if they are having side effects. Many patients don't need it and any mild side effects resolve over several months. In europe, most rheumatologists don't even use folic acid.

Use 1 mg folic acid: Use 1 mg of folic acid now to avoid neural tube defects in the developing fetus

Space it!: Folic acid, several sulfa-antibiotics, and sulfasalazine interfere with the absorption of methotrexate.  Take separately!  this would not be an issue, if you injected mtx. The way that I have most of my patients take the medication.

Sounds ok: Depending on local issues (such as how much folate is added to foods) the recommended dose for women's folate supplements are about 400 mcg/day for those who might become pregnant, 400-600 mcg/day for those already pregnant, and 4-5 mg/day (10 times more) for women at high risk for getting a baby with a neural tube birth defect. One can ask her Ob-Gyn doctor what the local recommendation is.
