i had bone marrow biopsy and chromosome- crytogenics and fish testing done because of anemia rbc and platelets were low. platelets restored but rbc did not. my test were all normal. could i have chronic myeloid leukemia or would it be seen in testing?

It seems like you have consulted a hematologist who did Cytogenetic and FISH studies. These should have provided an answer to the cause of your low CBC numbers. To specifically address your question  about you having Chronic Myeloid leukemia(CML), I doubt it very much because CML manifests as high white blood cell(WBC) count and a cytogenetic abnormality call Philadelphia chromosome.

can leukemia cells be dormant in the body? been having elevated wbc/ low rbc & high imm gran for 8mths platelets low 3mths but restored.mpv levels are still high. recent bone marro biop/ chromosome/fish/ antibodies test/ neg aml & mds could it be cml?

how can i protect my child from infections if he has leukemia'?

Common sense: Use of soap and water or waterless soap by your child and those who touch him goes a long way. Also, reducing contact with non-family members and enforcing that adults and children who know they are ill or feel like they are getting ill stay away or at least where a mask and avoid touching if possible.

Consider: Community fund raising. Alternatively, seek out information from the american cancer society or the community cancer support groups located in cancer centers. Lastly, if he has insurance in his home country and is stable to travel the best idea is to return home for treatment as this is the least expensive method for receiving treatment, again assuming he has insurance in his homeland.

Many causes: One high liver function and an elevated white blood count and neutrophil count does not mean leukemia. In a 29 year old an infection is much more likely. You would expect more changes in a CBC than this with leukemia. Who ordered the test and why? That would be the person best able to guide you. Hope this helps.

ALL in sibling: There is an increased risk of a sibling developing ALL. I would discuss everything with a geneticist and allow them to give you  specific numbers. Also, the positive side is that a sibling creates a close possible bone marrow (stem cell) match. Be sure if you do go ahead with a second pregnancy, to harvest stem cells.

Increased red cells: Polycythemia is a bone marrow disorder (myeloproliferative) that results in too many red blood cells being produced. Occasionally, to many platelets are also produced. To may red blood cells can cause poor circulation that can result in itching, and in severe cases abnormal clots. Treatment can range from blood removal, to chemotherapy (hydroxyurea), to newer drug that target jak2 mutations

Usually not : Leukemia in adults is usually not hereditary. Sometimes individuals with other genetic changes such as Down syndrome or a few other mutatations such as one called p53 have an increased risk, but most cases are not linked.
