Get another scan: Fluid in the baby's kidneys is not "normal," but is somewhat common. I think you are describing renal pylectasis, or dilation of kidney. This often will resolve on its own, but you should still have follow-up. Your doctor will probably recommend this in 2-4 weeks, depending on severity.

Fluids on kidney: if there is enlarged kidneys( hydro nephrosis), we usually do ultrasound after birth and vcug( voiding cystourothrogram) to make sure there is no blockage or reflux in the kidney. Depending on the finding, we usually decide to do antibiotics or not

Unknowable!: But get the radiology opinion report.
If right is normal that is great.
Left may have renal cysts which can look like black spots (and may be confirmed with ultrasound if any questions)!
delayed emptying, hydronephrosis, obstructions can be serious but treatable with current urology techniques.

Not your fault: Diabetic mothers have a slightly increased risk of having babies with congenital abnormalities. However vast majority of diabetic mothers have perfectly normal babies, although they tend to larger at birth than babies born to non-diabetics, who can also have similar problems. Sympathize   with your loss.

Depends on what it: Is . If it is pus , it need to be drained through ultrasound guided or ct guided procedure . If it is small amount of fluid that does not cause symptoms , monitoring for its size may suffice . Good luck.

At some point during development of kidney, the ureter(the tube that carries urine from kidney to the bladder) gets kinked & urine back flows in the kidneys.Obstetricians monitor them closely while in utero, we usually get a kidney us when baby is born to rule it out and be sure there is no obstruction.Urology consult & prophylactic antibiotics if needed.
