i had an ultrasound to locate my iud (mirena) as strings were not visible when i wanted it removed. fluid was found around the iud in the endometrium. what does fluid encapsulating an iud mean? is it normal or dangerous?

: In between. If the IUD got embedded in the endometrium, the tissue reacts by trying to contain it with fibrous tissue and fluid. Once it it removed and there is no infection, your endometrium should return to normal.

i just had an ultrasound done (iud placement) and it said i had free fluid in the cul-de-sac, uneven walls. cyst on both ovaries and debris?? what does this mean?

: If the IUD was in the appropriate place, the "free fluid" may be related to the rupture of an ovarian cyst, leaving some "debris" which was shown on the U/S.

i had an ultrasound yesterday due to severe pain in my right pelvic area my charts says they found a 5.4cm cyst also fluid surrounding my iud in the endometrial canal but i'm not sure what that means is this bad ?

: I assume the 5.4 cm cyst is in the ovary which has no relationship with the IUD and surrounding fluid in the uterus. If that is the case then your pain can be due to the enlarging ovarian cyst which is usually self-limited (most often resolve or go away by itself) and the finding of inside the uterus is not uncommon when you have an IUD. No, those findings are not serious at all. Take care.

yellow discharge and occasional uterine pain since embed iud removed in march. first culture showed groupb second showed bv. ultrasound showed some fluid around one ovary. is this concerning? everything else looked normal?

i have the kyleena iud and i have been having a lot of cramping and lower back pain, painful sex for the last few weeks i had an ultrasound and it shows fluid all around the iud but all swabs negative for infection what can cause this?

: Your description suggeste the causation to be the IUD and you may discuss this and possible removal with the doc who put it in.

Options : That is certainly one option. At 49 most docs would simply recommend a hysterectomy.

Locate it: They will try to locate the iud by ultrasound. If it is in the uterus, it is fine, but it will requie a small procedure to remove it when you do want it out. If it is outside the uterus but inside your abdomen, it perforated and will require surgery to remove ( a laparoscopy). Or it may just have fallen out. In that case you will need to have altenate birth control.

Don't understand: When you say surgical, what do you mean?  With a simple office hysteroscopy, it is very easy to remove an iud whose strings are otherwise inaccessible.  Of course, that assumes there is an iud in place.  The ultrasound would help you determine that in advance of the hysteroscopy.

i went to the doctor and my doctor couldnt find my string for my iud and now i have to get a ultrasound to see where it is what is the risk ?

Minimal: There is no risk to the ultrasound; and only minimal risk to removing the iud with no string present.  The procedure might be slightly  more uncomfortable than if the string were present.  Discuss the specific risks with your doctor.
