i finished 12 days of prednisone 6 days ago. if i get my flu shot now (injection in arm, not live vaccine) will it be effective and safe?

: Yes, you can get it. However, I usually advise my patients take flu shot in the second or third week of October. September is somewhat early by my point of view.

Probably None: Prednisone bursts generally clear the system in 1-2 weeks. Patients who take a prednisone burst are generally immune competent again and prepared for immunizations a couple of weeks after steroids. We aren't allowed to provide advice on this forum, but those are the pharmacokinetics of prednisone. If you would like further advice on the timing of your flu shot, please see your doctor.

Can get it any time: You can get it anytime.Flu vaccine is a killed virus and there is no contraindication to getting flu shot when taking prednisone.

May not benefit: Unfortunately the flu shot may provide you little benefit if you are on daily steroids in that amount. I usually wait until my patients are off therapeutic steroids  30 days before giving the flu shot or any other vaccine for that matter. This is something you should discuss with your treating physician. They may decide it could benefit your situation.

i had the flu shot but a day later had a solumedrol shot and put on a short course of prednisone (4 days). do i need to get another flu shot? and if i do how long after the first flu shot do i get a second one?

No: You do not need another flu shot. Why solumedrol shot? If you are taking prednisone, it makes no sense to add solumedrol. Why prednisone?

i am suppose to start taking prednisone for 10 days for chronic sinus infections. im getting a flu shot tomorrow. how long should i wait to take it?

Take them now: You can safely take them both.  Especially if you have had no issues with either the flu shot or prednisone.  If you have bad sinusitis symptoms, use nasal treatments and saline as possible.

: The  vaccinations may be administered as per the usual protocol as advised by your physician. One day after finishing steroids, the COVID 19 vaccination may be obtained. Steroid injections should be scheduled after the COVID 19 vaccination rather than beforehand. Shingles vaccination should be administered two weeks or more after the COVID 19 vaccination.

Flu shot: You should wait. Second it is WAY too early to get a flu shot in America. Every year trying to make more and more money,  pharmacies are offering the flu shot  too early and then selling patients a second dose later in the season to stay protected. It is too early now. Wait.

i am on 9 mg of predezone.  i have to increase to 15 mg. dr  says ok to get flu shot. is it better to get it before i increase to 15 mg?

Hi dose flu vaccine: For someone 65 and older there is a 'high dose' flu vaccine that is made up of 4x the amount of antigen in a regular flu shot. You have good insight- the more steroids you're on, the weaker your immune system becomes (relatively speaking). So yes, I would prefer you to get the flu shot sooner rather than later, and please ask about the HI dose shot -if you were my patient, that's what I would give
