im seeing floating black specks what causes this?

May be floaters: Floaters are due to imperfections in the clear gel inside the eyeball, and tend to become noticeable as a person ages. Floaters occur in many people, and sometimes are more noticeable if one is looking at a plain blank surface such as a blue sky. Large numbers of floaters, noticeably increasing floaters, flashes of light, changes in vision, etc..., should be evaluated by an md eye doctor.

See an eye doctor: This starts to occur at a certain age in many people where they see "floaters". Depending on degree your eye doc will have possible solutions for you.

Accepted Answer

Entoptics: This is somewhat complex to explain but you are seeing the blood corpuscles near the center of the back of the eye.  This is normal and is termed entoptics or flying corpuscles.  If you see them then the back of your eye is healthy and your vision is likely to be good.

If ... associated...: Eye Floaters can  be black dots, wiggly threadlike particles that float inside the Eye and distort or cause transient obstruction of   vision when the eyes move. Most are benign but if the numbers increase suddenly or if there is  associates trauma, bleeding, Inflammation or diseases like Diabetes/Hypertension one should see the Eye Consult for evaluation and management.

Floaters: If you see three or less, probably not to worry and should go away.  It seems to follow where ever you look.  If you see more than three or not going away, then see ophthalmologist.

Prodromal: Unusual sensations ofter proceed neurological events such as epileptic siezures, although sometimes something as simple as hypotension with low blood pressure leads to syncope (fainting). Side effects of current medications could also be involved. Maybe requesting therapeutic level test on medications would be advised.

Floaters: It sounds like you are having what we call floaters. This is when particles in the inner part of your eye, the vitreous humor, build up. They cast shadows which you see as these floaters. They are not usually a sign of serious eye disease but if this is new for you or if you are having other symptoms it is best to get an eye exam to be sure that your eyes are healthy.

sine last december, i sometimes see on and off black small floating dots in my vision. they go away after i blink a few times. what causes this?

Floaters: Since they go away with blinking, the dots may be caused by dryness on the surface of your eye.  Allergy with tiny amounts of mucus can also cause that symptom.  Commonly, thin strands of connective tissue that run through the vitreous jelly in the back of your eye cause these symptoms, but in that situation the dots float away with change in direction of gaze, not so much with blinking.

i bent over to pick up something when i bent back up seen a lot of floating silver looking sparkles lots of them lasted maybe 30 sec seems fine now ?

Low BP: Probably behind fluids drink lot of fluids and donot avoid salt.

Accepted Answer

Your symptoms can be: one or two separate issues. Flashes of light seen in a dark room may be due to vitreous pulling the retina causing retinal traction, tears, breaks or even detachments and should be evaluated. Lights seen in a zig-zag fashion may be from visual aura known as a 'scintillating scotoma" and is associated with a variation of migraine headaches. This as well can be evaluated.
