Prescription expense: Flexor? Are you referring to the flector patch (diclofenac)?  That is a topical antiimflammatory patch and is costly for may people as there is no generic.  An alternative may be oral anti-inflammatories of which most are available gernerically.  There is also voltaren gel that is topical, although also costly and there is another toical ointment that may work.  Ask your physician and pharmacist for assistance.

Contract differently: When holding a weight up, against gravity, both flexors and extensors should contract, but with those muscles doing most of the work doing most of the contracting, and the other muscles on the other side of the arm just contracting a little bit to keep the person in balance, and to control the steadiness of the arm.
