Opthalmologist: This may be a nonserious vitreous detachment but could also be caused by a retinal detachment which is very serious. In any event you will need an examination by an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. If you can't get a prompt appointment, go to an eye and ear clinic as an emergency patient.

Many possibilities: Light flashes in the eye can be from a number of sources - from migraine aura to problems with the back of the eye to something irritating the brain and causing local seizure-like activity. Probably best to get an evaluation by your doctor or a neurologist.

The : The most likely cause of your symptoms is a migraine.  The migraine start with a visual aura

which is what you probably saw.  The visual aura may or may not be followed by headache.

You should contact your medical doctor about your symptoms, since other causes are also

possible.

Vitreous tug: The vitreous jelly in the bag of the eye can push against the retina and cause this. Please get a full dilated exam to make sure that the retina is ok.

Interesting: I would suspect a "floater" in the fluid that fiils the eyeball.  There also complex circuitry in the brain affecting your perception of vision as the eyes move quickly, so if you do this fast enough, maybe you're overriding the system.  If any other symptoms such as pain, double vision, blurry vision; certainly consider an appointment for a complete eye exam and visual field assessment.

Not as long as it's: Tiny, flickering flashes. If you see a whole lot of flashes or floaters coming down like a curtain, that would be an emergency. You'd then need to call your eye doctor, and go to the nearest er. If it's bothering you in increased frequency, then you call see your eye doctor, and discuss whether or not you need to come in for an exam.

Flashing lights eyes: I would see you Dr as may be having serious blood blood flow to brain. Unless you have had migraine.

Flashes : Flashes are often associated with floaters.  In this condition the liquid gel that fills the inside of the eye moves forward as part of the normal aging process.  The gel is called vitreous, and when it moves forward the patient will often see brief flashes for days, weeks, or longer.

Unfortunately, in a small percentage of patients, the vitreous gel tears the retina as it moves forward.  This can lead to a retinal detachment which needs prompt treatment.  The risk of retinal detachment is higher if there is near-sightedness (myopia), or a family history of retinal detachment.

Only a comprehensive eye examination will reveal the cause of your symptoms. Please contact your ophthalmologist.
