Nope: Flagyl treats infections but not tooth infections. The best antibiotic for tooth infections are penicillin or Amoxicillin as we as Clindamycin for those allergic to penicillin.

Accepted Answer

NOT always.: Metronidazole works better for anaerobic infections than amoxicillin. My first choice for dental infections is Amoxicillin unless the infection is "periodontal" in nature. Then i add flagyl/Metronidazole to my Amoxicillin rx.

is clindamycin supposed to be rxed 3x or 4x daily for tooth infection? dentist gave me 300mg 3x daily, but dosage info online says 4x. is this enough?

have a tooth infection on 31 moxie dosage treatment  ends on 18th, root canal scheduled 23rd. is 5 days wait too long? should i seek treatment sooner?

2 suggestions: 1.  Seek treatment sooner.  If your Dentist cannot see you perhaps referral to a root canal specialist, an Endodontists, is in order.  2.  Ask for refill of your antibiotic to carry you up until the time of your appointment.

Yes: The easy answer is yes.  If your 30 min late on a dose it's not a huge deal.  Just try to stick to the 6hr time frame as close as you can.  If you're getting the appropriate total dosage in each 12-hr period you should be fine.

Assuming you: Are not allergic to the penicillin family of antibiotics, you should have little concern with the prescribed medication, even w pregnancy. Check with your ob, but i'm sure it's probably ok.

See a Provider: May still have yeast.  May need to use an oral medication to get rid of it.  There are other vaginal creams that are more effective than Monistat.  Are you eating yogurt or taking a Probiotic?  Since yeast lives in the gut, this may also be helpful.  If you are still bothered, see a provider and check it out.

See dentist first.: To rule out a dry socket, seek the attention of the dentist that extracted the tooth, prior to any additional antibiotics.

Tooth infection: Antibiotics will not cure a tooth infection, they will only mitigate the symptoms.
The tooth needs to be treated. Make an appointment to see a dentist.

Needs dental help: Infections usually need help from a dentist to help remove the source of the infection which can be in the gums or decay leading to a root canal issue.
