Diagnosis and when??: Many many causes for cafl pain: phlebitis, baker's cyst, footwear, sporting activities. Calf cramping: low iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium. Can occur as a feature of restless legs.  So many causes and treatments that are diagnosis dependent! see your doctor.

Interesting: Hot areas that come & go without pain makes one think of hives, which can have multiple causes, but these don't just occur in the calves.  Burning discomfort  in a calf area could indicate a nerve condition, however it isn't usually felt just in the calf, & wouldn't usually involve both calves.  If symptoms continue, best to see your doc who'll be able to look at these and ask you more questions.

Fitness over Form: You can do exercises to make your legs strong and flexible. That is more important. Think about function rather than form.   Do you have any concerns about anorexia nervosa? If you find yourself thinking a lot about your weight, size, and appearance, you may want to consult with a counselor, or psychologist to make sure your concerns aren't interfering with other aspects of your life and health.

Cardio type exercise: Many people have muscular calves and that is their hereditary anatomy.   To get "leaner" muscles one should do low weight higher repetition type exercises.  Riding a bicycle under low tension gears is also good.   Swimming can be effective at creating a lean muscle structure.  Do not expect rapid changes.  Follow a sound diet as well.

Mother Nature : There are specific exercises for calf muscle strengthening. But to gain mass there, there is no magic diet.  Genetics - for better or for worse - will largely determine where fat and muscle will accumulate.
