how possible is it that a bladder fistula is cancerous?

Large number: Most bladder fistulas represent urinary bladder perforated into the GI tract.  It rarely occurs with primary bladder Ca but is most often seen with Crohns disease fistulizing into bladder or cancer of the distal colon which has fistulized.  When fecal urine is noted, biopsy of the fistula is needed followed by resection.

can a bladder fistula (complicated) heal itself? i have not been wetting myself an can feel when i have to pee again. or could something worse be wrong? i was told fistulas can not heal themselves?

: I assume you have a vesicovaginal fistuta. If that is the case, the fistula is transiently obstructed so you do not experience wetting (no leak in the vagina) and bladder can be full then you have the voiding urge. Unfortunately, the fistula will recanalize sooner or later.

i have a bowel +bladder fistula, would an operation be need for this , and if surgery, is it keyhole or open surgery?

These fistulas : Are amongst the most difficult to treat and very rarely respond to medical therapy (that is, if you have Crohn's disease). It almost always requires surgery, and the surgical repair can be difficult and is not always successful. I'd recommend seeing an accomplished surgeon with this kind of experience.

Surgeon: A general or colorectal surgeon is where i'd go first. If the diagnosis is obvious there's no need for endoscopy. The surgeon can direct the evaluation, and the remedy is a surgical intervention. Good luck

: Yes A person that type of surgery probably could have a gastric bypass. What needs to be done is to consult a bariatric surgeon for a specific advice

had surgery to remove diverticulitis and a bladder fistula a year ago it hurts in my right pelvic area when i cough?

Get eval: Not sure if the pain is related to the previous years surgical site, or if your appendix is inflamed, etc.  With your symptoms and history, best to get a medical evaluation and some possible testing ordered to aid in the diagnosis and subsequent treatment if needed..  best wishes.

Recurrece: Uncommon problem, most  likely recurrence of disease not the scar , need endoscopic  reevaluation for presence of any malignancy'  initial balloon dilatation, if unsuccessful , followed by surgical resection  is required.

No-many possibilitie: A stricture is a narrowing of the colon that can arise due to diseases of the colon such as diverticulitis, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or as a complication of prior surgery.  Management may include endoscopic dilitation of the stricture  or surgical excision, depending upon the cause of the stricture.  I recommend that you return to see your surgeon for their expert opinion.

appx what percentage develop a stricture after surgery 4 colon/bladder fistula & diverticulitis? is the balloon treatment (dillation?)very successful?

Not frequent: If stricture develops may be due to recurrences of disease, balloon dilation may help, will require resection for better out come.

i have a supra pubic catheter and have constant uti's that have bowel bacteria in them.  ileostomy as well. could i have fistula small bowel - bladder

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Urinary tract infections commonly have bowel bacteria, but if you are concerned and you keep getting them soon after finishing antibiotics it is worth having some testing to determine if there is a fistula.  May involve a ct, a cystoscopy, or a dye study.  Knowing more about why you have an ostomy and a suprapubic catch would allow a better answer.
