i woke up twice this past week withy fingers tingling numb on right hand.  took a few minutes to go away. i've read it's possibly carpal tunnel?

Indeed: I would see your doctor for a full evaluation to make sure though. Typical symptoms include numbness and/or tingling of the thumb and index/middle fingers, aching wrist, and clumsiness. Try a wrist splint overnight to alleviate those symptoms until you see your doctor. Hope you feel better!

Elevate hand: If your hand is just numbness and tingling, that is a nerve problem.  Sometimes, swelling can cause numbness and tingling.  To make matters more confusing, some numbness and tingling can make your hands feel swollen.  Not a simple situation.  There are conditions which can cause both swelling and numbness.  Maybe wear a carpal tunnel brace at night for a week and see how you feel.

Cubical tunnel or...: Most commonly an ulnar nerve compression at the elbow,  or less likely a nerve root being pinched at the neck. Avoid sleeping with you arm bent under your head at night. Try a light ace wrap around you elbow to keep the arm straight while you sleep.  If that doesn't better see you doc for a nerve conduction or ekg study. Lots of more invasive treatment options.

Common:Carpal tunnel: While carpal tunnel may not be the cause, it is the most common cause of numbness and tingling in the fingers, and may radiate to the shoulder and even neck.  If it wakes you at night, usually carpal tunnel.  If neck pain, may be central/neck related.  Recommend seeing an orthopedist.

You may have a spinal cord disorder , compressive nerve root disorder or brain mass.
The sensory  motor combination suggest an urgent evaluation by neurosurgery or neurology.
