Capillary: These red spots are most likely due to burst capillaries which leak blood into the skin and take days to weeks to fade. What caused the swelling and discoloration initially? ?infected bite ?allergic reaction ?trauma

what blood pressure medication causes less vasodilation? i have taken metoprolol and currently on 10mg lisinopril with hctz. both cause finger swelling, i believe from over dilation?

: Metoprolol, a beta blocker, is not a vasodilator but can cause fluid retention. The HCTZ in the lisinopril HCT should prevent fluid retention. Lisinopril is a vasodilator but I've never seen it cause edema. You don't mention the dose of metoprolol. Perhaps you need a stronger diuretic. Are you prone to premenstrual fluid retention?  I'm sure you're on a no added salt diet.

Possibly: Pain that severe needs to be worked up by your doctor in person.  He/she will listen to you, perform an examination and possibly order some tests to see what's wrong with you.

You should get: Evaluated by a physician who may need an xray as part of the evaluation but just dont just get an x-ray to look for a injury. There are many soft tissue issues such as infection, tenosynovitis, gout, inflammatory disorders  that may not show up in an x-ray. So get seen to rule out other non boney causes.

: This sounds most consistent with a reactive arthritis from trauma.  It usually goes away in 5 to 14 days.  It usually has no lasting residual problems associated with it.  If it persists beyond that point in time, it could be a ganglion cyst.  You would only need to see a hand surgeon if it remains troubling and persistent.
