Size doesn't matter: Fibroids are usually measured on ultrasound in centimeters. They can be tiny (like a pea) or big as a melon. What matters is if they are causing any symptoms (exs. heavy menstruals, pain) which may require treatment. When fibroids get big and cause the uterus to enlarge, the uterus can be measured based on a similar size pregnancy (ex. up to the belly button is equivalent to a 16wk size pregnancy)

am 28yrs and i have jst found out that i am 6weeks pregnant, n have also found out that am developing a fibroid size 2.22.7 am i safe to abort?

: Obtain an appointment with your OB/GYN for guidance, as the location of the fibroid may make a minor surgical procedure complicated.  Oral abortifacient pills may not be available in your state, but are the most benign choice at this stage of pregnancy.

should uterine fibroids (sizes 1.2 to 1.8cm) be removed? what is the procedure to remove these fibroids? after removal, will they reappear again?

Accepted Answer

Only if problematic.: Fibroids are a problem if they are causing  pain and/or bleeding. If either of those are an overwhelming problem then a myomectomy might be the best option. The surgical procedure, called a myomectomy,  removes the muscular knot. You will likely get fibroids again but there is no guarantee either way. Other options are hormonal therapy, endometrial ablation and hysterectomy.

i have anterior intramural fibroid sized 1cm. can this cause infertility?. im planning for  second baby since 1 year. my amh  is 2.8 and hsg normal

Fibroid/ infertility: Small intramural fibroids such as you describe yours rarely interfere with fertility...women with fibroids very often have endometriosis, which often decreases fertility. Any unusual menstrual pain, sexual pain, or abnormal bleeding can be suggestive of problems.
I suggest you see a gyn specialist for further evaluation and a careful exam.

i need help deciding where to have my surgery at? i will be having my fallopian tubes removed along with a large fibroid size of cantaloupe. my choices are camellia womens clinic. along with uc davis.

You need to feel ...: ...confident about your surgeon.  In general, higher qualified physicians practice at academic medical centers such as UC Davis, but sometimes they are more interested in teaching/research. Private practice physicians are more often in tune with satisfying their patients. Try to review each potential surgeon's professional history; if he/she is qualified, then whoever you feel best with. Good luck

They could: Multiple small fibroids could definitely be associated with pelvic pain, though considering other causes too would be worthwhile. PCOS has no relation at all to pelvic pain or to fibroids. Good wishes.

With this history,: would advise a hysterectomy with removal of the ovaries.

They can get bigger.: I have seen and heard of examples the size of a football or bigger.  They cause pain, and if big enough, may become malignant, and so they are removed.

Maybe: It is always difficult to decide when to remove fibroids as they are so common. Most are not causing symptoms and have been reported to be present in up to 75% of all women. They may interfere with pregnancy, labor and delivery, cause increased bleeding and/or pain and it is at that point that a decision to remove the fibroid (myomectomy) is made. Is it painful enough to risk surgery?

hi, i'm 35 years old married , they diagnosed that i have left lateral wall intramural fibroid  of size 19 - 15 mm is it dangerous do i need to remove?

Accepted Answer

Fibroid: Typically fibroid of that size that is intramural is not worthy of removal. Depends if it extends into the cavity and is causing heavy bleeding. If it is not bothering you, it is not causing miscarriages, then i would leave it alone and have an ultrasound every year or two as they do seem to grow over time.
