i am experiencing  ankle swelling and foot swelling. the following also describes me: obesity. what should i do? i am on an arb and my bp normal now.  i only have slight shortness of breath during exercise or a lot of movement. not at rest.

Edema: You are eating too much salt so that your body cannot get rid of it all. Describe to your Dr. Could also be early sing of heart failurr.Does it go away at night?

Stress fracture?: The mid-foot is a common place for a stress fracture.  It could be only a sprain/strain, but a stress fracture is possible. While there is commonly pain at rest, pain only during exercise can occur. Stress fractures are often not seen initially, so if there was a negative x-ray at the time of injury it should be repeated now. CT/MRI can help make diagnosis.  Immobilization/casting may be needed.

It depends...: It all depends on what is the reason why you are having swelling. If you don't suffer of any illness a very common reason is what is called dependent edema if you stand up or are on your feet for a long time during the day. In that case elevation of your feet for 20-30 minutes can help. Also if you consume a lot of salt or sodium that can cause it so try to go low on that in your diet.

Foot swelling: is an accumulation of fluid in the foot, this can be from injury, venous problems, post surgical or infection. These types give you pitting edema, meaning when you press it leaves an indentation. Non-pitting edema usually occurs in lymphatic problems and is much harder to treat.
