Has to do with : Antidiuretic hormone inhibition from alcohol build up. You will urinate more water (causing dehydration-which is one of the reasons alcohol is so dehydrating) and then when you start to rehydrate, things like sodium will be out of balance, causing your feet to swell.

Message in a bottle: Your feet are telling you to stay away from alcohol - or make it minimal - before they are damaged badly enough to fail to recover in 1 day. Your inability to process the big change in blood sugar needs an eval. See your Dr. for exam and glucose testing. Avoid diabetes if you can, treat it if you must. Best!

ADH (vasopressin) hormone.: Alcohol, especially in women, has the ability to cause swelling of the hands and feet. This has to do with its effect on a hormone in the blood stream. Having said that, there are many other causes for swelling. The concern is the long term effects of alcohol on the both the liver and the kidney.

It should not: Drinking alcohol in moderation should have no impact on the swelling in your ankle.  However, use of Tylenol / acetaminophen and drinking alcohol together increases risk of liver damage (ibuprofen would be ok).  Enjoy your honeymoon, and congratulations!!

i have started getting facial swelling (adema) that lasts for days after running, drinking alcohol or coffee.  what is causing this, my adrenals?

Worthy to check it: Swelling due to fluid accumulation in a tissue, or edema, could be caused by problems with the adrenal glands.  These conditions are relatively rare, however, compared to other causes related to the kidney, liver, lymphatics or blood vessels.  I would suggest seeing your physician for an examination and blood work for starters. Further investigation with radiologic studies may also be warranted.

hi i am a 28yr old male. the fronts of my knees get very hot and i feel blood pumping through them sometimes in an evening. no pain or swelling. i've noticed it specifically when drinking alcohol. should i be concerned? i also kneel a lot in my job!

Knee symptoms: If there's no discoloration, swelling or marked tenderness, I attribute this symptom to knee sensitivity from your occupation. Alcohol does dilate the arteries and these sensitive areas of overuse apparently have increased sensing of increase in blood circulating through the blood vessels in and around the knees.

i have swelling under left side jaw after drinking alcohol.  i have been to gp, ent, had ct, & dentist over last 2 yrs. what now? demand biopsy?

Likely not helpful: Personally, i know of no specific connection to swelling of the jaw following the consumption of alcohol. I would love to have the magic answer for you. It would be very important to know what all those doctors told you following their examinations, but you failed to mention that.  Biopsies are not generally taken of intermittent swellings. I doubt that it would show anything.
