It's possible but: the numbness should go away after you are out of that sleep position..if the numbness continues see a doctor

Couple possibilities: You may be encountering the beginning of restless leg syndrome, and less likely, would be presentation of a peripheral nerve disorder.  See your doctor and get this evaluated, as either problem can be easily controlled.

Not if your sane: When you sleep your muscles are pumping less fluid back to your heart so the tissues that surround tendons swell. This pinches nearby nerves causing numbness.C.

Be seen: It would be wise to be seen for a detailed neurological and vascular exam to obtain an accurate diagnosis.  Although it would be unusual for someone in their 30s, one possibility is you have developed a sensory neuropathy.  There are multiple other possibilities as well.

Possible peroneal ne: Possible peroneal neuritis on the side of the  foot.  If it persists see your podiatrist.

Likely benign: Not unique to compress nerves especially on crossing legs.  Tends to be transient and reversible.  If the numbness persists, then that suggest more permanent problem.  Some people with early neuropathy have higher susceptibility, and familial susceptibility to pressure palsy altho rare may be a cause.

Numbness: Numbness in the feet can be caused by a similar problem to Carpal Tunnel called "Tarsal Tunnel."  But there are many other causes of numbness, including nerve damage or Neuropathy, Neuromas or other nerve impingements, poor circulation, etc.  If you want to know for certain, you can visit a Neurologist who can perform an EMG/NCV study to try to isolate the cause of your problem.

the top of my foot, shin and sometimes thigh goes numb when i lay on my back while sleeping. mattress is neither hard nor soft. sometimes it's the left, sometimes the right leg. numbness goes away when i move my leg. what could be the cause of this?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. If you are overweight that could explain the symptoms and losing weight would be imperative. Regular exercise will help by improving muscle health.  It would be prudent to see a doctor. You need to see MD: The symptoms you describe are clearly not normal. The potential causes are numerous, and if not identified may result in significant medical problems ranging from loss of function and joint destruction to even cardiac issues. This can&#x27;t be diagnosed via Internet. Make an appointment to see a doc ASAP.

GET IT CHECKED: You are describing neuropathy. Neuropathy has many causes, the diabetes is one of the most common. If he has not been checked for this, i highly recommend it. Neurologists and physiatrists can do noninvasive studies to identify this. It can be treated, but is always best in no what the source is.
