i get intense pain in my mid-upper back when i take medicine or drink alcohol sometime the pain just happens it feels like bad heartburn in my back?

Referred pain : Your pain may be referred from your stomach, and it's important to always hydrate and not drink alcoholic beverages on an empty stomach, as this can irritate the stomach lining. If you take medicine that are strong, like Ibuprofen or other nsaid's, they too can irritate the stomach lining. So, make sure to visit your pcp to have this investigated, so you can enjoy your life more with less pain.

Yes!: From the history you just related you clearly have reflux from the stomach. 50 times is a lot! Why is another question. You can speak to your doc and give him a thorough history. He will then examine you thoroughly examine you and may order a few tests. And then some therapy. It is very treatable!

i get heartburn everyday and also during the time i am eating - more so then after. six months ago i have had endoscopy and diagnosed with mild esophagitis and gerd. heart problems were ruled out. should i get back on protonix?

Esophagitis : The best person to ask this would be the doctor who did the upper endoscopy. It seems that Protonix could be helpful. It should be taken 30 minutes before breakfast, but I defer to that doctor. Don't eat at least two hours before laying down to sleep, lose excess weight, stop smoking tobacco and you should sleep with your head angled up by raising the head legs of the bed or using a foam wedge.

i was diagnosed with reflux a couple of years ago, and i didn't treat it good lately i have been having chest pain, and hoarseness and swollen glands the chest pain comes and go could it be barretts or is the gerd coming back? im not having heartburn?

have been diagnosed with gerd, the possible silent reflux kind, where acid comes all the way back up. not as much heartburn but more clearing and irritated throat. also have chronic sinus nasal and ear irritation. could the acid cause that?

Maybe.: Reflux can irritate the whole esophagus and can causes sore throat which can lead to a feeling of ear pain (the nerve goes past the ear.)  See if GERD meds help. Get rid of fragrances and aerosols as theses also cause nose and throat irritation.  See this link on laryngoesophageal reflux:

Need evaluation: Because of your age, your symptoms also could be related to thyroid problems, or thyroglossal cyst. For which rushing into a diagnosis of gerd without physical exam wouldn't be recommended , especially if you have been losing weight.

Gerd: These are common symptoms of GERD, you need to be on chronic therapy. First of all make sure you sleep well propped up with at least three pillows. Stay away from all foods that irritate your stomach and try  aPPI   Such as Nexium  20 mg at night. If you do not get good relief then increase the Nexium to twice a day. Good luck

Maybe.: Pain anywhere in the abdomen, can cause referred pain to the back and shoulders even!  If the pain occurs only with movement, it is more likely to be due to sprain or strain of muscles or ligaments.  Any pain, if it lasts longer than a few days or is severe, needs to be checked out.

: Not that I know of. The entrance to the stomach is not a valve, but a purse string closure. Nicotine/caffeine/dark chocolates all loosen the purse string closure. Laying down after meals increases back pressure on the entrance. You can take meds, modify diet and behavior practices to the point it rarely flares, but I consider reflux &amp; GERD just a flaw in the human design.
