Exam: You have an eye trauma, most likely from rubbing. You may have a stye or infection. Call for an appointment and examination-ASAP

Eyelid: Two of the more common problems associated with an eyelid would be blepharitis or cholazion.
Both typically treated with warm compress and topical antibiotic.

Dry Eye, Blepharitis: There are many causes of this, but if the eye feels like something is in it, the symptoms are from the cornea, or clear part of the eye. One eye can come open some at night and become dry, leading to irritation upon awakening. Blepharitis is a low grade bacterial colonization of the lid that can irritate overnight. Recurrent corneal erosion syndrome is also possible. An exam can give a diagnosis.

2 things: Could be a pterygium, a benign growth of the conjunctiva on the inside part of the eye. It is associated with ultraviolet-light exposure (sunlight).  It can prevent consistent lubrication of the cornea &result in a "gritty" corneal abrasion.  The other possibility is nodular episcleritis-a benign, self-limiting inflammatory disease of the top part of the eyeball.  Red&slightly painful-go to doctor.

: I don’t have any explanation, since this occurs so infrequently.  Do you wear glasses, contact lenses.  Do you have your eyes examined on a yearly basis.  I would ask an Ophthalmologist about your concerns.
