Dry Eye, Blepharitis: There are many causes of this, but if the eye feels like something is in it, the symptoms are from the cornea, or clear part of the eye. One eye can come open some at night and become dry, leading to irritation upon awakening. Blepharitis is a low grade bacterial colonization of the lid that can irritate overnight. Recurrent corneal erosion syndrome is also possible. An exam can give a diagnosis.
