my upper left eyelid keep twitching and it had been long for weeks.  is there anything wrong with my eye?

Likely dry eyes: The cause of twitching is more often dry eyes than not.  Use artificial tears a few times a day and see if it subsides, if it doesn't then see an ophthalmologist.

Ocular irritation: Likely causes of twitching of the eyelid (eyelid myokymia )are related to ocular surface irritation, whether its from dry eyes, eyelid inflammation, allergies, dust, wind, medications, or stress. First trial artificial tears 4-6 times per day. Warm compresses and lid massages may also help. See an eye md if these don't help.

Sometimes this can: be caused by a metabolic disorder but usually it resolves on its own. Try to relax and avoid caffeine to see if this helps.

Get some sleep: Or forget about it....eyelid twitching is common in healthy individuals.  We don't really understand why exactly it happens spontaneously but some things associated could be fatigue and caffeine.  Twitching can be brief and immediately cease or it can go on even for a few days and then, disappear.  You can always consult with your doctor if you feel it is interfering with your activities.

my question is related to my eye. my right eye has been sort of twitching on the bottom eyelid. it started on sunday and hasnt stopped. it comes and goes but when its there its very difficult to blink . i would like to know why this is happening ?

Can be myokymia: Random twitching of an eyelid, which happens in normal people, is called myokymia (an involuntary, spontaneous, quivering of a few muscle cell bundles within a muscle). Myokymia starts and stops spontaneously. In the eyelids, it can last a few minutes to a few days. One should see an ophthalmologist (md eye doctor) if such symptoms persist, keep recurring, or are combined with any other symptoms.

See specialist: As a neurologist, things that immediately come to mind are myokymia (fancy word for muscles rippling) or blepharospasm (fancy word for involuntary movements of the eye).  See an opthalmologist.  If these are problems, they can treat.  If there is something else going on, they can be helpful as well.

Clarify: Do you mean you whole eye looks smaller or just the pupil? Does your eyelid FEEL heavy or just droop? Sounds like it could be a Horner's syndrome. I don't really know how the twitching fits in here, but definitely have it looked at. It could be something serious.

: If your eyelid twitching is only temporary then there is no problem. However, if it persists for more than a couple weeks it would be reasonable to see an opthalmologist. The exact cause is typically unknown but the most common cause is stress and fatigue. So please take time to relax and get enough sleep.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!
