Maybe not: Plain water can be irritating to the eyes.  Tears are a complex mixture of water, salts, protein, mucus and oils.  Better to try artificial tears first than washing out with water and check with your ophthalmologist to see if there is an underlying problem.

EYE WASH: Best to use a commercially prepared 'eye wash solution' eg. Blinx, dacryose, eye wash in a 4 0z squeeze bottle. Nerver use an eye cup.

what is the difference between isotonic and hypertonic eye washes? i need to rinse my eyes several times a day due to allergies?

Accepted Answer

Only normal saline!: for allergies, meaning isotonic.. Hypertonic saline 5% is better for corneal edema or swelling eye conditions that need to reduce swelling not for allergies. We see best when the cornea is clear and not swollen.

if you wear a lens that is not 100% clean, can your eye wash/clean itself off any bacteria? or is it stuck there until the lens is removed?

Likely stuck there: It is important to cleanse your lenses properly. Tears do have an anti-bacterial enzyme, Lysozyme, but it is not advisable to rely on that.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

No: These are structure changes of the conjunctiva.

Accepted Answer

: If there is redness or any uncomfortable feeling in one's eye, seek an urgent exam by an ophthalmologist.  An early infection merits an early intervention.

Accepted Answer

Eyedrops: Eyewashes really are not good for red eyes as they will wash out mucin and protective oils which irritates the eyes and makes them redder.  Using eyedrops like systane and refresh can moisten the eyes and relieve some redness.  Do not use drops that say 'gets the red out' as these are drying.  If persistent see an ophthalmologist for diagnosis and better treatment.

can systane  gel  be mixed with regular systane eye drops or eye wash liquid?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: Systane gel can be mixed with regular Systane drops. However the eye can only hold one drop so it does not make much sense to mix them. Eye wash is used to irrigate out the eyes and is not a lubricant and should not be mixed with the the Systane gel or drops.
If you feel that your eyes are not being adequately lubricated by the Systane, then I would suggest trying other brands of drops

i got some crest baking soda an peroxide toothpaste in my eye but i dont have any eye wash i just rinse my eye with water an i put some artificial tears in my eye i dont know what else to do it still burns?

Go see eye doc: Go see an eye doctor. You may have a corneal abrasion. You will need antibiotic ointment

i cut my toenails & a shard flew & went into my left eyeball. i did 4-5 eye washes, did eye drops & lifted my top eyelid over my bottomi have no clue if its out. what else could i do? all optometrists are closed for the night?

Accepted Answer

: If you feel like there's something in your eye, have an exam by an emergency room MD or at a walkin clinic. You will be advised if consulting an ophthalmologist tomorrow for a slit lamp exam to detect corneal injury is advisable depending upon the doctor's findings.
