Maybe not: Plain water can be irritating to the eyes. Tears are a complex mixture of water, salts, protein, mucus and oils. Better to try artificial tears first than washing out with water and check with your ophthalmologist to see if there is an underlying problem.

No: Tap water contains many chemicals and even germs that can be harmful to the eyes. If you have dry eyes, use artificial tears to soothe them. You should have an eye exam to determine other causes of irritation that are leading you to want to wash your eyes so much. You may be better treated with other simple regimens.
