To prevent damage: to the cornea because the eyelids would otherwise be cracked open during general anesthesia. This would lead to dryness and corneal damage, which can then lead to infection. Blinking or closure of the eyelids is required to keep the surface of the eye lubricated and healthy. Take care.

Yes Eyedrops: For Lasik surgery we typically give both a sedative / muscle relaxer (like Valium - Benzodiazepine) and a topical anesthetic like lidocaine gel or proparacaine to numb the surface of the eye.  Patients today typically fell no pain at all during Lasik.  There may be an irritation following surgery that can persist overnight. My patients rate it as a "3" on a 10 point scale.

YES!!!: A bulls-eye rash is pathognomonic of lyme, meaning it alone generally proves you got it. Blood tests are notoriously unreliable for lyme-only half with lyme have a positive eia & the confirmatory western blot has many false negatives, esp. If not done by igenex, the only lab with a reliable test!ultimately lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis.Treatment requires a comprehensive approach.See comment.

Mostly not: This would be done under general only if there was the unlikely possibility or no possibility of cooperation.  This would include the retarded, those with uncontrollable motor activity, fierce anxiety and of course youth.

Call your doctor: This may be a side effect due to a medication you are talking.  Call your doctor and check.  Otherwise, see an eye doc to find out what is going on.  Glad the shoulder is doing fine!

Not related: You most probably have a vitreous floater.  The clear gel that fills eyeball is normally attached to all parts of the inside of the eye.  As we get older it can become more liquid (watery) and detaches from the back of the retina causing your "dirt" floater.  This can also reult in a retinal tear or detachment  you should see your eye doctor to check the retina for this or hemorrhage (blood).

Accepted Answer

No: The problem is during the procedure you need to look at a light so the doctor can center the treatment. If you are asleep, there is no way to be sure the treatment is centered on your cornea.  However, with some sedation beforehand and careful reassurance by your doctor you should be fine. Remember, everyone who has the procedure is scared.

See remark: I am sure he must have had some trouble voiding before the surgery.Within 24 hrs he should be able to void.General anesthesia "depresses " our strength ,&amp; function for usually short period of time after surgery.

No: Your floaters are inside your eyes' vitreous cavity and occur as a result of aging of the eye. Normally these gradually develop, but occasionally they can increase suddenly, usually associated with light flashes & a noticeable change in the quality of your vision. If this occurs, a dilated eye examination is important to rule out other problems causing the floaters, such as a tear in the retina.

can i do the cataract eye surgery in a hospital under general anesthesia?

Accepted Answer

Yes: But it is much more common to have it under local anesthesia. The procedure is so fast that it'll take longer to get you under general and to wake up from it, than the surgery itself. If you are nervous, there are plenty of options to make you comfortable while still using local anesthesia.  Ultimately, confidence and trust in your cataract surgeon are critical to alleviating anxiety.
