Not usually: The most common types of glaucoma are completely painless. There is not usually any different feeling unless pressure is extremely high.

Yes, definitely: The most commonly used class of glaucoma eye drops called prostaglandins can cause red eyes.  It is is most often a cosmetic problem, and many times will clear up after a month of use.  You can also develop an allergy to a glaucoma eye drop, also leading to red eyes.  Lastly, the preservatives in eye drops, if used over extended periods, can lead to dry eyes, and also, red eyes.  See you eye MD.

Yes: Glaucoma may occur monocularly or binocularly, depending on the etiology. Most, however, is binocular, although it may be quite asymmetric.

Not glaucoma : Where are the spots?  This is not or associated with glaucoma.  If it is the eyelids it is a condition called xanthelasma.

No : Ther is absolutely no correlation between wearing glasses and chances of getting glaucoma or bulgy eyes.

what are the dangers of keeping an eye that is damaged from glaucoma?

Accepted Answer

It varies: We typically do not removing an eye unless you cannot perceive light and it causes pain that cannot be relieved from medication.  For eyes that have been irreversibly damaged from trauma, there is a role for removing it to decrease the possibility of an immune reaction to your other eye. However, these situations must be evaluated on a case by case basis.

after instilling a drop for glaucoma, how long should you leave your eye shut?

3-5 minutes: It takes 3-5 minutes for the glaucoma medicine to be absorbed into the eye.  You can increase absorption by placing your finger in the corner of your eye and pressing gently.  This blocks the small tube that drains the medicine out of your eyes and into the nose.  You lose about 1/2 of the medicine if you do not do these steps.

i've been diagnosed with pigmentary glaucoma, so what is supposed to happen to my eyes?

Treatable pressure: In pigmentary glaucoma, the release of pigment from components of the eye rubbing against each other (lens fibers to iris) releases pigment which can float onto the drains of the eye, elevating the pressure.  Your ophthalmologist can recommend drops and sometimes surgery to treat this pressure elevation.
