No known cause: Cysts are common and in most cases, occur without any known reason.

Excision: A benign conjunctival cyst that causes associated irritation or is large enough to be bothersome, can be excised under local or topical anesthesia. I do these in my office under an operating microscope, and i generally have to place an absorbable suture to secure the wound.

Eye lid cyst: This depends on the location within the eye lid, weather it is superficial or deep.  Either way it is office minor surgery with quick recovery and little or no pain.

Genetics: Younare probably genetically prone. These are not related to diet or the result of a particular lifestyle.

Dermoid cyst: Usually it is a dermoid cyst, which is not harmful.  It can enlarge over time.  You can get a scan for a likely diagnosis or can have it cut out or just watch it.  Most of my patients chose to have it removed to find out for sure what it is.

See your eye doctor : You need to see your eye doctor, and have them evaluate the size, position, how long you've had it, and what type it is. They can discuss with you the best approach, and what's involved. Usually, it's an outpatient procedure, so you go home the same day.

Cyst: If the cyst is on the eye, it is generally benign.  If it becomes larger and bothersome, it can be surgically removed.  A bump on the eyelid is usually a stye or chalazion, which can be managed with warm compresses and topical antibiotic.  In either case, seek help from your local ophthalmologist.
