Therapy: Although i can give some suggestions, you should be actively involved in physical therapy and follow their guidlines.  I suggest a home pulley, using the good arm to help assist the operated shoulder with flexion.  Also doing wall climbs by using your fingers to climb up a wall. Make sure to let your surgeon know you are having difficulty.  Good luck.

No one answer : Since this is such an unusual problem for a 7 yo, there is no one answer. It is suggestive  of a birth defect or trauma. See a pediatric orthopoedist and ask the current and future care.

i'm having pain medial to my shoulder blade. not onset by exercise and no pain when performing rotator cuff motion. what's hurt? how can i stretch it?

Sounds like: the SUBSCAPULARIS....is strained and I would apply heat and take anti-inflammatory medication (eg OTC IBUPROFEN) and NOT STRETCH in fact these muscles whivh "hold the scapula /shoulder blade to the chest wall NEED REST when strained!

Varies: Prior to starting an exercise program for a rotator cuff, proper diagnosis from an md is necessary, as well as a physical thearpy evaluation to determine muscle imbalances, compensations and tissue integrity.

Get examined!: At age 55 your most common cause for this pain would still be 'impingement' ( or bursitis). Labral tears causing this pain are less likely unless associated with the biceps 'anchor'( SLAP) lesions -- but less likely in isolation in your age group.Osteoarthritis can cause pain in this distribution . AC joint arthritis can also cause pain when rotating arm towards chest ( adduction). See an ORS! GL!

Ouch, biceps tear?: Your biceps tendon is directly next to your rotator cuff and may also be torn.

Shoulder: Tendinitis is more likely. Nerves usually do not get trapped in the shoulder area unless there is extensive surgical intervention and a lot of scarring. You should rest it for about 4 weeks and then go for physical therapy. Exercising an inflamed tendon prevents it from healing and causes pain as well.

Hard to say: I'm sorry, but there is just not enough info to answer this one. Is it a full tear or partial or just tendinitis? Did it develop over time or from one big injury? Have you had surgery? All of these things, as well as patient specific factors, affect healing. The bigger the injury, the longer the healing. A strain can heal quickly (weeks) but a repaired cuff can take 6 months.
