Exercise induced: Anaphylaxis is often associated with ingestion of certain foods prior to exercise, such as green vegetables. What can be common in cholinergic urticaria and exercise induced anaphylaxis is probably activation by heat, still both have complex mechanisms. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) before exercise, avoid exercising in hot/humid environment, and right after meals,air-conditioned gym would be better,don't overdo it,

Airway: Exercise induced asthma is bronchospasm that occurs with exercise. The process is reversisble with and inhaler. Anaphylaxis can cause bronchospasm, but it is associate with massive histamine release and activation of other inflammatory markers that cause edema of skin and airways and this can cause hypotension.

Exercise anaphylaxis: Exercise-induced anaphylaxis (eia) is a rare disorder in which anaphylaxis occurs after physical activity  the symptoms may include pruritus, hives, flushing, wheezing, and GI involvement, including nausea, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea. If physical activity continues, patients may progress to more severe symptoms as cardiovascular collapses.

Very unlikely: Cholinergic urticaria can be exacerbated by exercise, heat and stress but will not lead to anaphylaxis. You can take an antihistamine prior to exercise to reduce itching and hives

i ate peanut free fruit snacks went outside to shovel snow and came in bc i was having an allergic reaction could this be food induced anaphylaxis?

Maybe: What was the allergic reaction? Shortness of breath while shoveling snow could be a side effect (no offense) but being out of shape (i am too), but also cold air is classic for causing shortness of breath, runny noses, coughing, wheezing, redness, flushing, etc.... See an allergist to have some testing before chalking up whatever reaction you had to an allergy. Hope this helps.

Different mechanisms: Cholinergic urticaria is different from oral allergy syndrome or exercise induced anaphylaxis. At any rate, if anybody has any of these conditions, using antihistamines and keeping an Epipen (epinephrine) handy is a wise thing to do. Have an evaluation by an allergist for better control, best wishes

Biliary obstruction: On a theoretical basis if one had hemorrhagic fever due to dengue virus you could precipitate hemoglobin in the biliary radicals.  Cannot imagine how anaphylactic shock would effect this. You need to discuss this at length with the doctors managing your condition.

9-1-1: The only home remedy for an anaphylactic reaction is to immediately call 9-1-1. If an epi-pen is available, give it and then call 9-1-1. Under no circumstances is there any other "home" remedy.

Anaphylaxis: Anaphylaxis is a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms.  When more than one organ system (heart, airway/lungs, skin, gastrointestinal tract, nervous system) is affected with allergic symptoms, it would classify as anaphylaxis.  Mild anaphylaxis would not have low blood pressure or shock or severe airway/lung symptoms.

how long would it take for anaphylaxis to occur?

Accepted Answer

Varies: Typically within a few minutes and up to 30 min. It can take longer, but this is rare.  Go to the emergency room if you suspect anaphylaxis, and use your Epinephrine auto injector (epipen, auvi-q) if so indicated.
