Diet and exercise: Supplementing with thyroid hormones will actually prevent you from gaining weight that could be caused by low levels of thyroxine. Check with your 1ry doctor or endocrinologist to make sure your levels ae adequate.

No easy answer: As long as your thyroid level is normal, this is not the reason for your weight problem.  Although supplements are a multi-billion dollar industry, there are very few if any legitimate studies that show that they work.  You should get a full examination to make sure there are no other reasons for your weight problem, after that it comes down to the basic reality of fewer calories in, more exercise.

i'm taking 100mgs of levothyroxine per day. my levels are normal now but i still can't lose weight. my doc won't give me t3 (liothyronine). can i take kelp also?

Yes, however...: "normal" levels often aren't optimal levels. Many people have trouble converting T4 to T3 (liothyronine) & thus need T3 (liothyronine) too. Please ask your doctor to check free T3 (liothyronine) (& ideally reverse t3). People may not feel good until T3 (liothyronine) is in the upper half of the normal range. If your dr. i take 100mgs of euthyrox for hypothyroidism. i also take the pill nordette. i am struggling to lose weight and i have acne. 36 yrs old. what can i do?

Weight loss/diffic: First check with your physician to see if your thyroid replacement is adequate.  Oral bcp's can assist with acne if taken punctually.  Decreasing carbohydrates and walking for an hour a day or more takes time, and patience, but it will work if you stick to it.

What pill?: I'm not sure what type of pill you mean- one that claims to stimulate the thyroid? That's ok but you prob. Need more levothyroxine ;/or to add t3 (liothyronine). 50 mcg is a small dose. Your doc probably thinks its enough because your TSH is ok. Check free t3 (liothyronine)- i like my patients to be in upper half of normal range.

Hypothyroidism: Given it's long half-life, we re-check your TSH about 6-8wks after you start Levothyroxine or change your dose. There are many symptoms to hypothyroidism (that's why you're taking Levothyroxine, right?), some of which take longer to resolve than others, but most within that 6-8wk period of time, if you're taking right dose for you. But weight won't magically melt off w/o exercising &amp; eating health

It : It could take up to 3 months for levothyroxine to fully clear your system. This medication typically takes a few weeks to be effective in the body. It is not advised to halt taking this medication, and may doctors will typically recommend weaning the doses, decreasing intake until you are off.

Levothyroxin ovrdose: Yes it will, but it can also make you sick.It can cause palpitation, pounding heartbeat, tremors, chest pain, shortness of breath, confusion, leg cramps, diarrhea, and seizures
so take it in prescribed dose and under medical supervision.
