Esophageal cancer: Adenocarcinoma of the esophagus is a serious and increasingly common cancer. Early forms are treated by local excision, but once it invades muscle or involves distant structures, the challenge is greater. Some clinical trials are available which might prolong life for your loved one beyond 6-12 months. Search for an NCI cancer center or academic oncology center which has access to these.

Depends : Unfortunately esophageal cancer is an aggressive one but if u catch it early it has a better chance of not recurring. It all depends on the primary stage of the disease.  Stage i is good. Higher stages have more chances of recurring . Every cancer is unique and u should discuss your particular case prognosis with your oncologist . Good luck.

Guarded prognosis: Chemo_radiation is usual treatment for stage 4 disease for palliation few do respond, most important to make as comfortable  as possible, pain management,  endo esophageal stents  help to swallow  prevent aspiration pnumonia,  and hospice care.

Very short: Weeks to months, and this is true of any age with esoph metastasis. Wt loss and energy/performance level are also signs pointing to poor and short prognosis.

I'm very sorry: I'm very sorry because likely either you or an individual  you care about is affected by this cancer. No physician has a crystal ball, but tumor type, size, and patient's health condition all play a role. Some non-small cell lung cancers may have genetic mutations (EGFR, Alk, Ros) that may be sensitive to "targeted therapies" which may prolong, but are unlikely to cure the disease. Good luck!

Prognosis is stage: It is stage-dependent. Once the Cancer has relapsed the prognosis is bad as the disease is typically fatal. As long as it remains stage-2, there is hope for a better prognosis as long as the disease is not visibly present. In one individual the prognosis and outcome is ultimately same although numerically speaking survival is longer as long as the Cancer has not shown up in the tests.

See below. Also ask: Your oncologist is the person you should ask this question. In fact it  was something to have brought up as you began and went through your chemotherapy. Since you do not seem to have had a satisfactory answer, i can shed some light  although at the risk of upsetting someone or the other.
Stage 4 cancers can be treated, sometimes very successfully yet they carry a heavy risk of coming back again.
