can you get a sore throat only on the left side with esophagus cancer or would your entire throat hurt?

Sore throat is not a: It is not a common symptom of cancer of the esophagus because, by definition, throat is a part of the pharynx....Esophagus begins further down where the boundary of throat finishes. Sore throat can be more severe on one side but it typically involves both sides especially if it is due to  viruses like the cold virus. Radiotherapy on one side of the neck can be the cause of a ones sided sore-throat.

It would more likely: Be an infection. Don't know if you have cancer risk factors. See your physician if the sore throat is not improving. F you have a significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see your medical provider ; get a strep throat test ; culture.

Uncommon: There is no reason to think of throat cancer at your age. You probably have a viral illness.

Hmm: Can't know, but if you have a colored spot you should be seen by a doctor, an ENT if possible.

Not really, but: It doesn't sound like any fun.  Why don't you have your doctor take a look and go over any medications you are using.  Stop smoking if you do so.

Tonsil: Sorry you had to go though it. The pain can last a long time but be sure you've seen your treating doctor to look for infection or a persistence of tumor.

Unlikely: It is unlikely cancer.  Cancer  usually not painful, until very late stages,  allergies or gerd are more likely to cause persistent sore throat in your age group.  Check with you doctor. If it is due to gerd, than in a long run in number of years it might cause esophageal cancer unless well controlled on medication.

most likely EBV: If you have sore throat for few days of ln swelling it is probalby viral, if the condition continues for more than 2 weeks then need testing.

how common is tonsil cancer at age 18? i had a sore throat and then noticed my right tonsil bigger than the other. i got over the sore throat but my tonsil is still bigger at the base than the other?

: Rare. Differences in the 2 sides is not unusual &amp; reflects past throat infection infection action. A worrisome but uncommon event is an abscess arising in one tonsil. Even this rare event, that causes significant progressive pain is much more common than a tonsil cancer, especially in an 18 yo.

ive made poor decisions and had untreated gerd for years and ive had lots of alcohol and acidic foods. my throat feels damaged and although im only 21 im worried i could have done enough damage to have esophageal cancer. is it possible?

: Whenever you ask the question "is it possibly", The answer is almost always "yes" (with a few exceptions).  However, is it likely, by your age, probably not. However,  Acid reflux over time could lead to problems like barrett's  esophagus.. (predisposing to future cancer), also esophageal damage, aspiration, etc.  Alcohol can add to it.  You may want to speak with a GI doc, and possibly endoscopy.
