Great Question: In general, the hallmark finding of any type of arthritis is a loss of cartilage in the joint. 

Standard osteoarthritis (oa) is associated with cysts, sclerosis, loss of joint space and osteophytes, but there is not usually any bone loss. Other types of arthritis, particularly psoriatic arthritis will have less of the changes mentioned above and more loss of bone in addition to damaged cartilage.

Anti-inflamatories can slow it down as can weight reduction, activity modification and pt/ strengthening exercises for supporting structures.  It may take many months to years before oa will show up as symptoms or on an x-ray.

No: Collaflex contains hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate-derivatives of cartilage; but taken orally they are digested and do not get to your joints. There are preparations like Synvisc (hylan g-f 20) tjhat do when injected by a doctor into he joint. Don`t waste your money. Glucosamine has been found to help in some studies, but not all agree Best bet orally are NSAIDS like naproxen.

No: The association between inflammatory eye disease and arthritis occurs with inflammtory arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis.  There is no association with osteo-arthritis and uveitis.
